Josef Newgarden has won the 2023 Indy 500 in a wild finish after three crashes in the last 16 laps. He held off Marcus Ericsson in the final lap to secure his second consecutive victory in the prestigious race.

Josef Newgarden took the lead at the start of the final lap, but Josef Newgarden used a scintillating last-lap pass to win the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday for the second consecutive year in a race that featured three crashes in the final 16 laps.
The first crash occurred on Lap 194 when Conor Daly lost control of his car and crashed into the wall. The second crash occurred on Lap 198 when Scott Dixon and Takuma Sato collided, sending both cars into the wall. The third crash occurred on Lap 200 when Romain Grosjean and Jimmie Johnson collided, bringing out the red flag.
The race was restarted with 16 laps remaining, and Newgarden quickly took control of the race. He held off a challenge from Ericsson in the final lap to win the race by a margin of 0.061 seconds.
Newgarden's victory is his second Indy 500 win, and he is now tied with eight other drivers for the most wins in the race's history.
